Cleveland’s latest RTZ wedges feature a brand-new steel with better feel and and a formula that allows for better durability and more consistency in what Cleveland is calling its best performing tour wedges yet.
Starting with the new steel, Patrick Ripp, Cleveland Golf’s Tour Engineering manager notes that the new Z-Alloy was going to allow the company more flexibility in the wedge design.

“We wouldn’t be limited on what we wanted to create. The enhancements this new material offers, shows up in every area that matters,” Ripp said. “The feel is pure, the aesthetic is cleaner and the consistency golfers will see around the greens is improved. From top to bottom, this is our most complete wedge to date.”
As Ripp points out, the new steel gave Cleveland an advantage in what it wanted to create, including the rust-resistant properties in the Z-Alloy that ensures longer-lasting, like-new performance.
In addition to the rust-resistant properties, the wedges have HydraZip technology, which is a system of face blasts and laser-milled lines to maximize spin in wet conditions. The technology is dynamically configured by loft groupings, so you’re going to get a balanced spin across the various lofts.
UltiZip brings sharper and deeper grooves that help cut through grass and debris at contact. The deeper grooves help make space for grass and debris to clear the impact zone.
ZipCore goes along with the Z-Alloy that it’s a low-density core technology that replaces heavier material in the heel and hosel area. It’s a lightweight material that helps dampen vibrations and allowed Cleveland to shift the center of gravity to where you strike the ball.
As for the shape of the wedges, the standard shape and grooves come with the mid, full and low grinds. The high-toe shape and full-face grooves are featured only on the ADAPT grind. The ADAPT grind is the only full-face groove option for this generation.
