The Forged line of irons have been a staple for Mizuno for a number of years, but the company continues to push the limits on performance and innovation within the line. That holds true when it comes to the new JPX925 Forged line releasing in 2025.
Mizuno packed a ton of punch into Forged with a new design, new face development, grain flow forged HD and a triple cut sole to optimize performance.
“Technology and advancements of ideas around performance and fitting have always been the top priority when it comes to Mizuno’s club engineering,” Chris Voshall said. “Be it through the use of advanced materials, new manufacturing processes, or even unique geometry, we are always looking to innovate in ways that will not only help to hit the ball farther and more consistent.”
While there is new technology and design aspects, the first feature that will stick out is the finish. For the first time ever, Mizuno is offering the Forged iron in either a traditional satin chrome or a forged black finish that will help reduce glare.
Once you move past the incredible look, the triple cut sole is one feature that is both visible and intentional. The leading edge on the clubhead is gently beveled for clean entry into the turf, while the hard cut trailing edge gives a smooth exit for smooth ball contact.
The irons also have a new CORTECH design that helps optimize ball speeds across the entire face and all new construction process with the Contour Ellipse Face.
“The CORTECH design featuring the Contour Ellipse Face represents the biggest jump in COR and COR area we’ve ever developed into a family of irons,” Voshall said. “The fact that this feature extends across the entire JPX925 family means that with every model, you will get really high center COR and ball speeds. But, arguably even more importantly, you’ll see those ball speeds retained across a massive area across the face on mishits.”
Contour Ellipse Face brings a multi-thickness design to the face that is shaped in an an ellipse going from low heel to high toe. Mizuno built the trampoline effect to rebound to get more consistent ball speed, hotter in the center but more consistent on mis-hits off center, as well.
Mizuno has gotten up to the legal COR limit allowed by the USGA in terms of transferring energy from the face to the ball, now it’s about expanding that limit across more of the face and that’s what the contour ellipse face does.
In addition to the face, the JPX925 Forged irons are forged from Chromoly 4120 in seven-iron to four-iron, which blends strength and malleability to help with speed and adjustability. The shorter irons are forged from 1025E pure select mild carbon steel, which helps with feel and precision in your scoring irons.
The Forged line of irons are typically for low to mid handicap golfers that bring a balance of speed, stability and feel.
