PING BunkR sand wedge aids in getting out of the bunker

March 18, 2025

If you have trouble getting out of the bunker, PING has developed a club for you.

The new BunkR sand wedge is engineered to help golfers get out of the sand with an easier exit. The high-lofted club has a wide sole and an iconic Eye2-style shaping.

BunkR

The idea behind the club is that the shaping and loft allows golfers to set up with a normal, square-faced technique, rather than having to open the club face up at address. It’s a 64-degree wedge, which naturally gets the ball up in the air and onto the green with ease.

BunkR also has 14.5-degrees of bounce, which helps the club glide through the sand and generate more ball speed to launch the ball. The loft, bounce and precision-milled MicroMax grooves all combine for an easier out and more spin for the golfer that traditionally struggles.

The MicroMax grooves give the face more grooves and are more tightly spaced to help with that spin.

PING also used a lightweight Z-Z115 shaft that has a lower balance point for more clubhead feel. The grip is a PING 360 Dyla-wedge Lite grip that is 3/4 -inch longer than traditional grips. PING says that extra length will allow golfers to choke down for more versatility and trajectory control.

It’s a unique design that is aiming to make bunker shots easier for the average golfer. By keeping a square face and utilizing a normal chipping technique, the club will work to get the ball out of the bunker and help you save shots around the green.
