Mizuno M-13 and M-15 Irons
Mizuno is adding two new irons to its Pro series of irons with the M-13 and M-15, which will make up the Modern Series.
The M-13 and M-15 are players distance irons within the Pro lineup for better players looking for more speed, forgiveness and playability. Each iron will bring distinct characteristics for golfers looking to improve different areas of their game.
“The Mizuno Pro line has kind of evolved over the last couple of years. We had the 22 family, the 24 family and over the last couple years, we saw the introduction of the S Series, which is signature,” Chris Voshall, Mizuno Director of Golf, said. “This is the introduction of the M Series; M stands for Modern. So, when you look at these, these are the more modern take on a Mizuno Pro execution.
“What I mean by that, the cosmetic, the look, the look at address, the feel, the sound all of those, very Mizuno Pro, very on point. The technology we’re packing into these is much greater than we ever have before.”
The M-13 has Tour-preferred proportions and a faster, more consistent ball flight. This model has Mizuno’s triple cut sole with a leading-edge bevel with a sharp leading edge, as well as a trailing edge bevel to reduce turf drag.
“The M-13 is very much going to live in that player’s distance category, but even going to lean a little bit more towards the player side. What I mean by that is it got thinner, it got smaller, it got more compact compared to the 243 of the past,” Voshall said. “That being said, it got hotter and it got hotter because of the technology packed into it.”
The M-13 is comprised of one-piece Grain Flow Forged HD 1025 Elite Steel in the gap wedge, pitching wedge and nine-iron, a Full Body Grain Flow Forged HD 4120 Chromoly face, topline and neck with a 431 stainless steel back in the eight through four-iron. The five and four-iron will also feature Mizuno’s contoured ellipse CORAREA technology.
“That essentially means is on the longer irons, they’re designed for speed, they feature the contour elipse face,” Voshall said. “So, you get the ultimate in feel, more launch built in.”
The M-15 still comes in a compact shape, but brings higher launch and additional forgiveness as compared to M-13.
M-15 will come with stock stronger lofts than M-13 and features a hollow-body design. The four to seven-iron has tungsten weighting to help with launch and forgiveness while the gap wedge, pitching wedge and nine-iron has a partial hollow-body design.
“These will launch easier with that hollow body construction that all about launch forgiveness. With the launch forgiveness, that hollow body design, it’s a 4135 face and neck with a hollow body that has tungsten in the longer irons,” Voshall said. “When you get the modern lofts that have gotten stronger, when you get a club this hot, you still want to maintain spin rate, maintain landing angle, so you don’t have those ones that are skipping through the greens.
“That’s where the multi-material with the tungsten is massive and to be able to have it not only go high, but stop quick.”
Both irons will sit alongside the existing Signature Series with S-1 and S-3, but both will provide more forgiveness than their S-1 and S-3 counterparts.
