Sun Day Red Presidio Golf Shoes

Sun Day Red’s new Presidio golf shoe is the company’s first iteration of a sport contemporary shoe that features measured technology and functionality to fit all golfers’ needs.

The Presidio is a more athletic style shoe compared to the other models that Sun Day Red has designed thus far and is offered as a spikeless shoe with stability and traction. The designers put countless hours in to figure out how to build an athletic style shoe that would fit Tiger Woods and every other golfer, as well.

“Golf has evolved to where people want to wear a shoe, sometimes to the course and drive a car in, not sacrifice performance. And so, that was kind of our mission statement, our problem statement to solve for,” Tyler Pinkos, Sun Day Red footwear designer, said. “Let’s get a shoe that, obviously performance is number one, and second, comfort and stability. But, then we want it to look cool. And so, being able to take this thing flawlessly from driving to the course, to the range, playing a round, the 19th hole, you name it.”

The goal for Presidio was to provide a comfortable, but functional, spikeless shoe that would live up to even Tiger Woods’ high standards.

That all started with traction.

“This is where we really took a lot of time to hone in on all of the details, from the direction of the traction to the distance between each lug. One big part about the outsole itself is the plate that you can see that runs through it,” Sun Day Red designer, Cody Caldon. “And it’s a dual-function plate that doesn’t just serve as additional traction, because this material is higher durometer, which means it’s harder, so it really digs in much more than the rubber does. But, the other part about this plate, the dual function, is the torsion part that the flexion that you receive really allows you to get that ground force and put the energy all the way from the ground into your swing.”

The plate works in unison with a lateral stability brace that’s on the side of the shoe that gives the golfer a locked in feel.

When creating the Presidio shoe, Sun Day Red designers looked at different brands in the space and a variety of models within this athletic contemporary silo to benchmark what was offered and what was available.

They set out to figure out who they were up against, who the core consumer is and how do they create a shoe that meets all the criteria for that golfer.

“We really wanted to come out with guns blazing and bring, we didn’t want to launch it too early. We wanted to make it just right,” Sun Day Red designer Charley Hudack said. “We got directive from the higher us that we’re not going to release anything until it passes the sniff test.”

Hudack, Pinkos and Caldon figured out how to get it just right and pass all the tests to bring it to market. Sun Day Red now has an incredible option in this category that combines comfort with high function and traction to give the golfer everything they would need in a spikeless golf shoe.
