TaylorMade TP5 and TP5x Golf Balls
TaylorMade has taken its TP5 and TP5x golf balls to a whole new level of performance and consistency in 2026. A reengineered core is now larger with a firmer mantle layer to bring incredible performance in distance and spin and a microcoating process has given TaylorMade consistency like never before.
The microcoating process delivers a consistent, ultrathin, even layer of paint across the entire surface of the ball to ensure consistency and eliminate uneven dimples. The coating makes sure that there is no pooling of paint in the dimples, which TaylorMade found is a key part of performance when it comes to consistently applying paint to a golf ball.
The golf ball is pained typically two to three times, according to TaylorMade’s Michael Fox, with layers of white paint and then a layer of clearcoat. That previous process leaves potential for inconsistencies.
“What we’d uncovered through the development of this golf ball was that the paint is paramount to the performance of the product. For us, making sure that those golf balls perform as identically as we could possibly make from ball to ball, from shot to shot, is as important as anything we do,” Fox said. “That’s what microcoating allows us to have. That consistency that you can feel confident in from ball to ball and shot to shot, and that’s really what is so special about microcoating and the new 5 and 5x.”
That microcoating process is not the only new aspect in this iteration of the TP5 and TP5x, though, as TaylorMade also made some distinct changes to the interior of the ball, as well.
This version of TaylorMade’s Tour ball will come with the largest core the company has ever produced, that has helped bring ball speeds up without impacting spin. The five layer makeup of the ball allows the company to decouple driver spin and greenside spin while increasing speeds to bring performance up to the next level.
That larger core has made this the fastest TP5 model ever with more consistency than ever, as well.
“Five layers allows us to have more levers to play with to affect performance or actually make no sacrifice in how these golf balls perform,” Fox said “The TP5 specifically is utilizing a new dimple pattern and new mantle materials in the largest core we’ve ever produced to keep TP5 as our softest, highest spinning ball around the green, but now faster than ever before.”
This year’s TP5 and TP5x models also feature a thinner, more durable cast urethane cover that contributes to that performance, helping to bring spin, feel and control around the green.
“On the other side, TP5x is nothing shy of the fastest five-layer ball we make. For us, that product is specifically designed to produce low driver spin, fast ball speeds and penetrating ball flight,” Fox said. “But, to do that with great performance around the green. What five layers allows us to do is decouple that greenside spin and driver spin. TP5x is the faster lower driver spin ball with still great spin around the green.”
Each golf ball is designed for different players, but both have been meticulously developed and engineered to be some of the best performing golf balls played by the world’s best golfers. The latest version of TP5 and TP5x now have even more consistency and more performance than ever before.
