The Highlights: SM9

  • #1 Wedge on Tour: Trust is the only word that can describe why competitive players at every level overwhelmingly choose to play Vokey Design wedges.
  • 6 Tour-Proven Grinds: D Grind, F Grind, K Grind, L Grind, M Grind & S Grind. For every shot, every lie, every course, there’s a grind fit for your swing.
  • Progressive Center-of-Gravity: SM9 features a progressive center of gravity (CG) throughout the lofts, which optimizes ball flight, accuracy and forgiveness.
  • Spin Milled Groves: Patented Spin Milled grooves are engineered to provide maximum spin and durability. Low lofts (46°-54°) are designed with narrower, deeper grooves, while higher lofts (56°-62°) have wider, shallower grooves.

Technology

Progressive Center-of-Gravity

SM9 features a progressive center of gravity (CG) throughout the lofts, which optimizes ball flight, accuracy and forgiveness. Using tapered top lines and varied hosel lengths, the Vokey R&D team has raised the height of the CG in the higher lofts, which promotes a lower, more controlled flight.

  • The new SM9 maintains the innovative forward CG – a position that actually hovers in front of the wedge face - to produce a solid feeling wedge that squares up at impact for more consistent results.
  • The CG has been raised vertically by adding weight to the topline design, where a tapered pad at the back of the toe helps align the CG properly without being visible from the playing position.
  • Progressive hosel lengths are also used to help raise the CG in the higher lofts, particularly 58°-62°.
  • High Center of Gravity: Lob Wedge (58 to 62 Degree).
  • Mid Center of Gravity: Lob Wedge (54to 56 Degree).
  • Low Center of Gravity: Lob Wedge (46 to 52 Degree).

The result is improved distance and trajectory control with increased stability for more consistent results.

D Grind

“For players with a steeper angle of attack.”

D Grind is a blend of a heel, toe and trailing edge grind for forgiveness and high bounce. An ideal recommended wedge for a steeper angle of attack and shots that require a variety of clubface positions.

F Grind

“For players preferring a full sole for full shots.”

F Grind is your all-purpose grind, suited for full shots made with a square face. F Grind is the most played sand wedge of the Tour and is recommended for players who prefer a more traditional wedge sole.

K Grind

"For players requiring forgiveness in a wide, full sole.”

K Grind is the highest bounce, and ultimate wedge for bunkers. K features a wide, full sole with enhanced camber and is forgiving in a variety of softer sand and turf conditions. Recommended for those players looking for the best soft impact, bunker wedge.

L Grind

"For precise players and firm conditions.”

L Grind delivers the lowest bounce with maximum greenside versatility. L Grind is perfect for firm ground for complete, precise control. Recommended for players with complete control over their impact allowing them to make the best of shots.

M Grind

"For players who like to manufacture shots around the green.”

M Grind is Voke’s favorite of the bunch. Designed for creative players looking to manufacture shots around the green with an open or closed face. Recommended for shallow, sweeping swing types and players who prefer a variety of clubface positions.

S Grind

"For players who prefer square faced shots with a simple technique.”

S Grind is a full sole wedge that has been narrowed by a trailing edge grind giving the player a faster feel through turf and grass.

S Grind is best for standard to firm conditions and recommended for players that like to control their loft with their hands ahead or behind the ball.

Hit it closer with precision Grind(s)

Six tour-proven grinds are available in the SM9:

  • F Grind: All-purpose grind particularly suited for full shots and shots hit with a square face. Ideal for players who prefer a traditional wedge sole. Most played sand wedge on Tour.
  • M Grind: Designed for players that like to rotate the club face open and closed to manufacture shots around the green. Ideal for players with a shallower, more sweeping swing type who play shots from a variety of club face positions.
  • S Grind: Full sole that is narrowed by a trailing edge grind, giving it faster feel through the turf. The S Grind is is best suited for neutral-to-firm conditions and players that like to control the loft with their hands ahead, or behind the ball.
  • D Grind: Blends versatility from a heel, toe, and trailing edge grind and forgiveness with its high measured bounce. The D Grind is ideal for players with a steeper angle of attack, and those who play shots from a variety of club face positions.
  • K Grind: The highest bounce wedge in the lineup and the ultimate bunker club. A wide, full sole wedge with enhanced camber, the K Grind is forgiving from a variety of softer sand and turf conditions.
  • L Grind: Lowest bounce option in the family. Heel, toe, and trailing edge relief allow for maximum greenside versatility. The L Grind is perfect for firm conditions, and designed for precise players who have complete control at impact, allowing for maximum shot-making versatility.

Fitting

Precise Fitting

  1. GAP FITTING
    • Determine the proper lofts to gap fit from your irons to your highest lofted wedge. Voke recommends 4°-6° of loft separation between wedges. This results in more 'stock' swings, producing better results.
  2. GRIND AND BOUNCE FITTING
    • Once the gap fitting is complete, hit all the grinds within the prescribed loft side by side with a focus on swing type (Digger/Sweeper) and course condition (Firm/Soft). This first bounce and grind test is for full swings.
  3. GREENSIDE FITTING
    • Each wedge must have a purpose, and the variety of shots required greenside (bunkers, rough, tight lies, flop shots, bump & run, etc.) create the need for wedges that can execute multiple shots. Choose wedges that complement one another and are capable of unique shots.
